About the role
The RN Care Manager facilitates patient hospitalization from pre-admission through discharge. They coordinate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare providers to ensure medically appropriate and cost-effective care. The role involves applying clinical expertise and medical appropriateness criteria to resource utilization and discharge planning.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate patient hospitalization from pre-admission through discharge.

- Apply clinical expertise and medical appropriateness criteria to resource utilization and discharge planning.
- Communicate with administration and the healthcare team as needed to facilitate patient care.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of California.
- BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
- Minimum of 3 years prior inpatient RN care manager experience in an acute care hospital, or a minimum of 3 years of inpatient RN experience in the acute care hospital setting, or a minimum of 3 years combined inpatient RN care manager and inpatient RN experience in the acute care hospital setting, within the last 7 years.
- Demonstrated utilization review/discharge planning experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills, leadership, negotiation skills, and knowledge of hospital operations.
- Proven experience and proven skills in conflict management and resolution.
- Proficiency in information systems, databases, and programs including MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, etc.
- Must have fast and accurate typing and data entry skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
- ACM and/or CCM certificate.
- Three to five (3 - 5) years clinical RN experience in an acute care setting.
- UCSD RN experience; Med/Surg, PCU, ED preferred.
- Previous supervisory/management experience.
- Experience with Epic, ECIN, InterQual.
- Knowledge of payer industry, resource management, reimbursement, and evidence-based clinical practice.

Pay
The annual full pay range is $153,466 - $202,433 per year. The hourly equivalent is $73.50 - $96.95.
Schedule
This position works days, 8-hour shifts, Monday-Friday, rotating weekends, and holidays.
