Primary location: John C Lincoln, 9202 N 2nd St, Phoenix, AZ 85020. Night shift on the Telemetry Unit (2E-Cardiac & Pulmonary Care). Sign-on bonus available; 1+ years of experience required.

About the role

The RN’s practice is guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics. The RN has knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures as applied to the care of the patient population served. The RN records patients’ medical history and symptoms, helps perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operates medical equipment, administers treatment and medications, and assists with patient follow-up and rehabilitation. The RN establishes or contributes to a care plan that may include:

• Administering medication, including careful checking of dosages and avoiding interactions
• Starting, maintaining, and discontinuing intravenous (IV) lines for fluid, medication, blood, and blood products
• Administering therapies and treatments
• Observing the patient and recording those observations
• Consulting with physicians and other healthcare clinicians

The RN teaches patients and their families how to manage illnesses or injuries, explains post-treatment and home care needs, including diet, nutrition, exercise programs, and self-administration of medication and therapy. The RN provides direction to licensed practical nurses and nursing aides regarding patient care and delegates when appropriate. The RN supports efforts to advance clinical knowledge and skills, precepts new hire staff and students, and assists them in completing competency tasks.

Responsibilities

• Collect health data systematically, prioritizing as determined by the patient’s immediate condition or needs, involving the family
• Analyze assessment data to determine diagnoses and develop, implement, evaluate, and revise an appropriate patient plan of care that is family-centered, developmentally and age-appropriate, and culturally relevant
• Identify expected outcomes individualized to the patient and their specific health problems
• Develop plans of care that are evidence-based, providing for continuity of care
• Implement interventions in the plan of care, initiating treatments, medications, emergency, and resuscitative measures based on standing orders, policies, and procedures
• Provide nursing care to meet physical, emotional, spiritual, and social-cultural needs of the patient and family using a family-centered approach
• Evaluate the patient’s progress toward attainment of outcomes
• Document observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures, multi-systems monitoring data, and other relevant information
• Provide ongoing evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of the care plan to ensure optimal patient outcomes and cost-effective, high-quality healthcare
• Evaluate one’s own nursing practice in relation to professional standards, statutes, regulations, and policies
• Integrate ethical principles in all aspects of practice and enhance knowledge of cultural and diversity needs for specific populations
• Collaborate with peers and other healthcare providers in professional development, fostering an environment for quality practice
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care delivery
• Collaborate with the patient, family, and other healthcare providers in providing care
• Develop and evaluate evidence-based standards of care for patients
• Identify changes in nursing practice using an evidence-based approach and facilitate adoption of improvements
• Participate in and use evidence-based research to improve nursing practice and patient outcomes
• Design and apply research to support integration into practice
• Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering patient care, utilizing resources effectively

Requirements

• Associate’s or Diploma in Nursing (required)
• All Diploma and ADN hires must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire OR have 5+ years of Registered Nurse experience at the time of hire
• Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN) (preferred)
• 1+ year of RN experience in a med-surg or acute specialty setting (required for Float Positions)
• State and/or compact state licensure as a Registered Nurse in Arizona (required upon hire)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
• Unit-specific certification as required by specialty area (required)
• National certification for unit-specific patient population (preferred)
