RN-Cardiac Cath Lab/EP Lab-Prep and Recovery

About the role

Provide specialized pre- and post-procedure care for adult patients undergoing cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology, structural heart, and interventional nephrology procedures in UW Health’s nationally recognized Heart & Vascular program. Care for a diverse patient population in a 12-bed prep/recovery unit, utilizing strong intermediate care (IMC) assessment skills while preparing patients for procedures, recovering post-procedure patients, and caring for select higher-acuity patients, including STEMI and TAVR patients requiring extended recovery. Collaborate with an expert multidisciplinary team including interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, anesthesiologists, cardiovascular technologists, and Cath Lab nurses to deliver safe, efficient, patient- and family-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Prepare adult patients for cardiac catheterization, EP, structural heart, and interventional nephrology procedures.
• Recover post-procedure patients and monitor select higher-acuity patients (e.g., STEMI, TAVR) requiring extended recovery.
• Apply intermediate care (IMC) assessment skills to assess and manage patient status.
• Coordinate with interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, anesthesiologists, cardiovascular technologists, and Cath Lab nurses to ensure seamless care transitions.

Work environment

Operational hours of the Prep/Recovery Cath Lab/EP Lab are 5:30 am to 7:00 pm. On-call responsibilities may be required for some weekends and/or holidays with a 60-minute response time. You will work onsite at University Hospital in Madison, WI.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Work Experience: Six (6) months nursing experience or current participant in UW Health’s Nurse Residency Program with successful completion of the Nurse Residency Orientation on unit/similar unit.
• Licenses & Certifications: Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WI or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact; current CPR/BLS certification upon hire; ACLS certification within 6 months of hire.
• Relevant Certification: Preferred.

Pay

• Competitive starting pay; relevant work experience considered.
• Additional compensation components may include evening, night, weekend, float, and on-call differentials.
