Specially trained to monitor and utilize therapeutic equipment necessary to provide specialized nursing care to patients with behavioral and/or mental disorders. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement a plan of care for a specific group of assigned patients, ensuring coordination between disciplines, physicians, and support staff.

Responsibilities

  • Performs professional nursing duties incorporating psychosocial, psychomotor, and age-appropriate cognitive skills to assess, plan, intervene, and advocate for patients on an ongoing basis throughout the continuum of care.
  • Reevaluates patient response and outcomes, effectiveness of the plan of care, and readiness for discharge; revises plan or makes referrals as necessary.
  • Acts as a role model and mentor to new graduate nurses, orientees, and support staff.
  • Professional Clinical Practice: Provides patient care, reviews and administers medications, treatments, and procedures in a safe, effective, and age-appropriate manner. Recognizes changes in patient conditions, takes appropriate action, and documents intervention. Collaborates with the healthcare team to intervene and advocate as necessary. Intervenes in instances of abuse, assault, or neglect and makes referrals to resolve patient issues.
  • Plan of Care: Develops long- and short-term goals consistent with treatment plans, standards of practice, and patient preference. Utilizes pain management resources and provides ongoing assessments of physical and psychosocial conditions. Reviews test results, communicates critical findings, and correlates information into the plan of care. Ensures nursing practice is evidence-based, compliant with hospital standards, and adheres to infection control and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Collaboration: Works with staff, physicians, and healthcare team members to coordinate care. Supervises, monitors, and delegates patient care activities, providing leadership to ensure safe, high-quality care. Acts as a resource, providing guidance and education about treatment plans, care plans, and medications. Develops and implements accurate teaching and discharge plans.
  • Communication: Demonstrates empathy and compassion, engaging in caring behaviors appropriate for the patient’s age, cultural, religious, gender identity, or ethnic background. Takes ownership of interactions with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers.

Requirements

  • Active, current, and unencumbered Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
  • AHA Basic Life Support certification.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to work variable shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility and composure in a constantly changing environment.
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior Certification (upon start date).
  • Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (required for Los Angeles City, Hollywood, and Van Nuys employees).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families.
  • Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (RN-BC).

Pay

Pay rate: $48.00 – $66.80 (average rate for 12 total hours worked, including overtime).

$20,000 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates. To qualify, you must have one or more years of acute care RN hospital experience. Current and some former Alta Hospital employees are not eligible. Bonus is paid in increments over 24 months to full-time RNs in good standing.
