Full-time position, 72 hours per pay period, day shift (12-36).

About the Role

Within the RN scope of practice as defined by the Oregon State Board of Nursing, applies the nursing process to the care of patients in the Acute Psychiatric Unit. Teaches patients and significant others, documents patient care in the medical record, and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to effectively coordinate overall care.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients, including physical, psychosocial, learning needs and barriers, age/culture-related needs, and discharge planning.
  • Establishes nursing diagnoses based on assessment results and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Plans and updates care according to identified diagnoses and needs.
  • Implements individualized care based on the nursing care plan, including:
    • Assisting with activities of daily living, fall risk management, and safe patient handling.
    • Medication administration and pain management.
    • Skin assessment/wound care.
    • Operation of biomedical equipment (e.g., infusion pumps, cardiopulmonary monitors, invasive catheters, medication dispensing cabinets).
    • Assisting physicians and licensed practitioners with invasive and non-invasive procedures.
    • Teaching patients and families about illness, tests, medications, healthcare, and wellness promotion.
    • Assigning, supervising, and directing unlicensed assistive personnel.
    • Coordinating and facilitating interdisciplinary care.
  • Documents patient assessments, interventions, care, and teaching in the electronic medical record.
  • Evaluates care provided and communicates patient status to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Creates a safe therapeutic milieu on the unit; attends group activities and participates in treatment team meetings.
  • If credentialed, performs duties of a Qualified Mental Health Professional as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Oregon.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Organization-approved workplace violence training (required or obtained by the last day of the month after the 90-day grace period).
  • National certification in behavioral health nursing preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Recent (within past 5 years) acute care hospital experience preferred.

  • Flexibility and ability to prioritize in rapidly-changing environments.
  • Effective teaching skills.
  • Ability to respond effectively to patient crises/emergencies.
  • Proficiency in computer use, including electronic medical record documentation.
  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance.

Pay

Hourly rate ranges from $47.82 USD (minimum) to $71.26 USD (maximum), representing the rate for an individual with significant experience in this role.

Physical/Mental/Environmental Requirements

  • Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently.
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on the telephone.
  • Frequent use of personal computer and manual dexterity required.
