About the role

The RN Appointment Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all appointments, clinics, and related communication with staff, families, and physicians on the Pediatric Complex Medical unit. This position oversees the vaccine program for inpatient children/young adults and provides professional nursing services to the children. Assistance with personal cares and skill development is provided as needed. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, this position works within the framework of physicians' orders, care team guidelines, individualized care plans, professional and regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and coordinate all aspects of children’s appointments.
  • Facilitate physician communication pertaining to appointments both before and after.
  • Facilitate coverage for appointments if unable to attend, both on the unit and for the appointment.
  • Facilitate communication with transportation department.
  • Facilitate communication with care team members regarding appointments and related care issues.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of pertinent documentation and orders relating to appointments.
  • Ensure prior authorizations are completed.
  • Oversee vaccine program for inpatient children and young adults.
  • Provide backup for Care Coordinator position when needed.
  • Oversee all coverage and care coordination of clinics (Dental, Pulmonology).
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A current valid license as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.
  • Five years nursing experience in the field of pediatrics and/or developmental disabilities.
  • Experience in care coordination and program facilitation preferred.
  • Maneuver within the physical work environment with some bending, stooping, reaching, and light lifting.
  • Documentation of current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in reading, writing, and speaking the English language.
