About the Role

Nemours is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse Resident for our 5 West Hematology/Oncology/Transplant and Cellular Therapy Unit in Wilmington, DE. 5 West is a 24-bed unit that has been designated as the Hematology/Transplant and Cellular Therapy and Endocrine unit for Nemours. This step-down unit provides inpatient care for pediatric patients requiring services from Hematology/Oncology, Transplant and Cellular Therapy, and Endocrine subspecialties.

Unit Details

Admitting diagnoses include but are not limited to leukemia, lymphoma, brain tumors, neuroblastomas, solid organ malignancies, sickle cell disease, bleeding disorders, diabetes, and other types of genetic and immune disorders. In addition, stem cell and bone marrow donors are cared for on this unit. The type of patient care provided in this area is complex due to patient diagnosis, the intensity of therapy, the criticality of patient condition, and the extensive patient/family issues that necessitate nursing intervention.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate patient care as part of an inter-professional team
  • Provide care for newly diagnosed endocrine patients
  • Provide care for hematology, oncology, pre-, peri-, and post-transplant and cellular therapy patients including the administration of chemotherapy and biotherapy
  • Flex to other units and hematology oncology clinic as per the unit's rotation pull guidelines as needed

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Eligible for Delaware State license (or compact license)
  • Current AHA Healthcare Provider (HCP) Certification
  • PALS optional but required to obtain within one year of hire
  • Successfully complete and maintain the National APHON Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Course within one year of hire
  • Successfully complete and maintain the APHON BBMT Core Curriculum within one year of hire
  • Successfully complete and maintain Hematology and Oncology 101 within one year of hire
  • Successfully complete and maintain PALS certification within one year of hire

Qualifications

  • BSN preferred
  • Competency in all required areas is established and maintained through an internal educational process
  • Nurses are strongly encouraged to maintain or achieve their specialty certification: CPON or CPHON

Schedule

  • 60 hours per pay period, with the ability to work more hours
  • Ability to become full-time
  • 12 hr. Night shifts
  • Holiday requirement
  • Every third weekend requirement
