RN – Hematology/Oncology

About the Role

The G70 Hematology and Oncology Unit focuses on the diagnoses and treatment of various malignancies and hematologic diseases, from new diagnosis to the end of life. The dedicated caregivers on this unit provide the highest quality, safest care to adult patients receiving chemotherapy, targeted cancer therapies, radioactive iodine, and other types of radiation therapies.

G70 has a positive, team-oriented, and supportive culture with daily 7 a.m. huddles for both the night shift and day shift to start/end their shift with an optimistic mindset. Within six months of starting on this unit, nurses can become "chemo-competent" and become experts at administering chemotherapy and understanding chemotherapy reactions.

As an RN on this team, you will assist fellow caregivers in delivering exceptional care by interacting directly with patients, families, and visitors, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and supply healthcare information as needed. This position requires a caregiver who is empathetic, understanding, and nurturing to ensure quality patient care and effective life-saving treatment.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care.
• Implement and monitor patient care plans.
• Monitor, record, and communicate patients’ conditions.
• Evaluate, update, and revise plan of care to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes.
• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
• Educate patients and family with educational materials considering cultural issues and other special concerns.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatment in accordance with approved nursing protocol.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• One year current acute care RN experience in a hospital setting (will consider military RN experience).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
• (ONS) Chemo/Bio course complete within 2 years of employment where chemo is administered.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Physical Requirements

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Schedule

A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. with every other weekend and holiday requirements.

Pay

Pay Range Minimum hourly: $35.50
Maximum hourly: $55.60

The pay range displayed reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set, and education. The pay range does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.).
