Full-time, 12-hour day shift position with a sign-on and relocation bonus of up to $20,000 based on experience:
- 0-1 years: $10,000
- 1-3 years: $15,000

5 South is a 40-bed, fast-paced, team-oriented medical-surgical unit caring for acutely ill adults specializing in urology, nephrology, trauma, colorectal surgery, and general body systems. Our diverse patient population provides daily challenges and opportunities to develop a wide breadth of nursing knowledge and hone valuable skills applicable across all specialties. We partner with Virtual Nurse partners to provide collaborative patient care utilizing virtual and bedside nursing.

Responsibilities
- Provide individualized, high-quality nursing care to patients of all ages using a team approach to coordinate care at admission, transfer, and discharge.
- Independently deliver nursing care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, Mercy Medical Center policies, nursing standards, ethical principles, and professional judgment.
- Work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- Assess, plan, and implement nursing care while ensuring patient comfort and practicing safe patient handling techniques.
- Continuously evaluate assigned patients and provide ongoing treatment.
- Anticipate, identify, and respond to the educational and emotional needs of patients and families.
- Guide and direct healthcare personnel (e.g., Patient Care Technicians) in caring for patients.
- Maintain knowledge of equipment set-up, maintenance, and use (e.g., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, drainage devices).
- Utilize safeguards such as IV pump drug libraries and monitor alarms to maximize patient safety.
- Initiate emergency support measures (e.g., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury).
Schedule
- 36 hours per week
- 3, 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Day and night shifts available
Requirements
- Current or compact state licensure as a Registered Nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.
- Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three months of hire.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification within six weeks of hire.
