Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (12-hour shift, 36-hour work week). Weekend requirement: every other weekend. No on-call shifts.
Pay
Hourly pay range: $61.74 – $90.16. The scale reflects the collective-bargaining agreement between Sharp HealthCare and the Sharp Professional Nurses Network, United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals, NUHHCE, AFSCME, AFL-CIO. Placement within the range is based on years of RN experience.
New-hire incentives for full-time employees: $5,000 relocation bonus for candidates moving to San Diego; $2,500 referral bonus for internal Sharp employees who refer a qualified external candidate (referring employee’s name must be listed on the application).
Responsibilities
- Provide direct and indirect nursing services to patients and families.
- Use systematic planning, timely information exchange, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and patient/family to coordinate care.
- Demonstrate ability to manage multiple patient needs and aspects of care; actively communicate with the care team.
- Utilize the nursing process and critical-thinking approach to deliver individualized, goal-directed, safe patient care that integrates mind, body, and spirit.
- Identify actual and potential patient problems; continuously evaluate interventions and adjust the plan as patient and family needs change.
- Make appropriate referrals based on initial and ongoing assessments.
- Collaborate with patient, family, and team members to develop a comprehensive care plan; prioritize resource use.
- Act as preceptor/teacher for other nurses on unit-specific populations.
- Implement safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients with complex, multi-system needs.
- Document care per department guidelines, ensuring a detailed, concise, and problem-oriented record.
- Delegate and assign care tasks, communicate expectations, and ensure follow-through; assess supervision levels needed for each situation.
- Assess appropriateness of physician orders and question when necessary.
- Support coworkers through assistance, feedback, and teaching; seek ways to improve work processes.
- Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with patient and family; adapt to spiritual, cultural, language, or illness-related barriers.
- Serve as patient advocate by removing obstacles, identifying needs, and interpreting for patient and physician.
- Provide age-appropriate education on recovery, self-care, end-of-life care, health maintenance, promotion, and wellness.
- Coordinate transfer and discharge planning and teaching with the healthcare team.
- Revise and develop patient-education materials in collaboration with the team.
- Demonstrate flexibility in teaching based on learner needs and adult-learning principles.
- Participate in quality-improvement initiatives and comply with regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Engage in professional behavior through unit activities and committees as appropriate.
- Mentor others to improve clinical practice; transfer knowledge and promote clinical effectiveness.
- Demonstrate complex problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
Requirements
- Graduate of a nursing school.
- Minimum 1 year of clinical experience (RNs with less than 12 months experience will complete new-grad requirements).
- Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license – CA Board of Registered Nursing.
- Current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare).
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification (employee provides certificate).
Skills
- Independently perform the nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation—for patients with overt and subtle needs.
- Provide safe nursing care for complex situations with some assistance and supervision.
- Demonstrate competency in unit skills and some advanced skills; may teach skills competencies.
- Coordinate patient care administered by other team members; may assume relief charge-nurse duties and assist with preceptorship.
