About the role
The professional nurse at Jefferson Health uses the nursing process to address the physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs of diverse patients, respecting their cultural beliefs and values.
Responsibilities
- Interacts with co-workers, patients, their family/designated care partner(s), and other staff in accordance with Jefferson's values.
- Integrates evidence-based practice, clinical expertise, patient, family/designated care partner(s) preferences, and cultural beliefs and values in delivering optimal healthcare.
- Partners with patients, their family/designated care partner(s) to identify learning needs and priorities, and educates them about their condition, treatments, and recovery.
- Minimizes risks by following established nursing practices and protocols, and ensures safe patient care.
- Uses information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, and support ethical decision-making.
- Maintains and monitors the quality and safety of patient care through data analysis and improvement methods.
- Fosters open communication and shared decision-making within nursing and inter-professional teams.
- Creates an inclusive environment, demonstrating skills in problem-solving and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrates a commitment to learning and professional growth, and acts as a preceptor for staff members.
- Participates in hospital- and practice setting-based committees, including safety and quality improvement.
Requirements
- Specialized Diploma from an accredited school of nursing required.
- Knowledge of patient-and-family-centered care and cultural awareness.
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to engage patients and families in their health care.
- Knowledge of patient assessment, care planning, medication administration, discharge planning, and health information documentation.
- BLS certification from the AHA.
- Active RN license in the state of practice.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or completion of a BSN or appropriate advanced degree within 3 years of hire, preferred.
- One year previous experience as an RN in an acute care setting, preferred.
Skills
- Ability to lift and carry 40-50 lbs., including pushing/pulling patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), and lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight.
- Frequent to continuous standing/walking.
- Physical demands include patient transporters walking 8-10 miles per shift.
