About the role

As a Risk Management/Insurance Analyst (Financial Analyst III), you will be an integral part of our FIN - Financial Compliance team, helping to shape the future of healthcare. This position supports the Director III of Financial Compliance in administering CalOptima Health's corporate insurance programs. You will interact directly with brokers, carriers, and internal teams including Legal, Human Resources, Contracting and Procurement, and Vendor Management. This role serves as a subject matter expert on all facets of business insurance, supporting procurement, claims management, and compliance.

This position is approved for Full Office. If telework is approved, you must work within the State of California only. For Partial Telework, you must come into the main office in Orange, CA, at least two days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a mission-driven culture focused on high-quality performance, customer service, consistency, dignity, and accountability.
  • Assist the team in carrying out department responsibilities and collaborate with other departments to support short- and long-term goals.
  • Lead annual renewals for all lines of insurance, including initiating application requests, gathering coverage requirements, compiling data, and submitting applications and supporting documents to brokers.
  • Administer all aspects of CalOptima Health's insurance program, including monitoring and reviewing insurance binders, policies, and endorsements; processing premium payments; requesting certificates of insurance; maintaining policy files; and reporting to state agencies as required.
  • Oversee the resolution of claims with brokers and carriers in accordance with department and company policies.
  • Calculate the allocation of insurance premiums to tenants and owned properties for the Budget team.
  • Evaluate and identify opportunities to improve existing coverage and procure additional lines of insurance where risk exposure necessitates.
  • Respond to Procurement and Vendor Management with contract and insurance questions for construction-related projects and conduct discussions with brokers as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Procurement, Vendor Management, and Contracting to review insurance language and indemnification provisions in contracts, leases, and agreements to protect the organization and ensure compliance.
  • Review and approve vendor Certificates of Insurance to ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Prepare the annual Schedule of Insurance to capture details of all insurance programs and premiums.
  • Prepare insurance program presentations for the board of directors and sub-committees.
  • Respond to requests from senior management and the board of directors regarding insurance programs and issues of interest.
  • Complete other projects and duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, risk management and insurance, or a related field.
  • Five years of experience in a corporate risk management department or with an insurance broker; an equivalent combination of education and experience may also qualify.
  • Access to means of transportation for work away from the primary office approximately 5% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare industry experience.
  • Contractual experience.
  • Legal experience.
  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and/or Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to visually read information from computer screens, forms, and other printed materials.
  • Ability to speak clearly in conversation and general communication.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication via telephone and face-to-face interactions.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing, reaching, flexibility, and body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, and prolonged sitting.
  • Ability to lift and move objects, patients, and/or equipment weighing 10 to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

Work is typically indoors and sedentary, subject to schedule changes and variable work hours, with occasional travel. The noise level is usually moderate. If located at PACE, work may involve a clinical setting serving the frail and elderly, with potential exposure to harmful or hazardous conditions and moderate to loud noise levels. Community-based work may involve occasional outdoor exposure in varied temperatures.
