Risk Engineer Lead, Investment Engineering
About the role
We are seeking a Full Stack Engineer to join our Investment Engineering risk team in the New York office. This role works directly with the Credit Risk Management and Trading teams to deliver scalable technology solutions that support Apollo’s complex and unique strategies. The position requires strong hands-on development skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a proven record of building high-quality systems that support risk management and investment decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of risk management applications.
- Deliver reliable, well-tested code within an Agile environment.
- Support the full software lifecycle: analysis, coding, deployment, and ongoing enhancements.
- Partner closely with risk managers, traders, portfolio managers, and colleagues to translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Participate in design discussions, peer code reviews, and team knowledge sharing.
- Troubleshoot issues, provide production support, and improve system reliability.
- Build new tools and integrate existing internal/external systems into Apollo’s risk infrastructure.
- Act as a mentor to junior developers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 12+ years of technology experience, including at least 3 years in a trading environment.
- Proven track record of building and deploying risk management software in production, both for End of Day and live risk.
- Hands-on development experience with Python + Java; web development is a plus.
- Exposure to risk solutions across asset classes; familiarity with credit products preferred.
- Experience with risk factor modeling, P&L attribution, and scenario analysis.
- Strong database skills (SQL and/or NoSQL), with experience in query optimization and data management.
- Familiarity with messaging technologies such as Kafka and working knowledge of DevOps practices (CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, Git).
- Experience delivering full-stack applications in Agile development environments.
- Strong initiative, entrepreneurial mindset, and ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative approach with the ability to partner effectively across levels of seniority and all business areas.

Pay
Base salary range: $190,000 - $315,000. This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus based on personal, team, and firm performance.
