Risk Engineer
PG&E’s Electric Transmission & Distribution team ensures the delivery of clean, safe, reliable, and affordable energy to nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. The team maintains and operates 100,000 miles of distribution lines and over 18,000 miles of transmission lines, focusing on grid reliability and resiliency. About the role
Provides engineering, testing, and analysis services across multiple disciplines to diagnose and solve technical problems. Offers consultation to clients to proactively avoid future issues. Conducts inspections, failure analysis, performance assessments, and evaluations on systems and components. Partners with management to create bid proposals for client work. This role focuses on risk modeling and management and operates in a hybrid work model.
A reasonable salary range for this position in the Bay Area is $109,000 to $175,000. The actual salary will depend on factors such as skills, experience, education, licenses, certifications, market value, and internal equity.
Responsibilities
- Collaborates with peers to prepare technical reports, specifications, and solve problems.
- Identifies and escalates testing or process improvements.
- Participates in identifying innovations and cost-reduction opportunities for new and existing technologies.
- Performs routine engineering analysis and leads scope, schedule, budget, and resource determination for projects.
- Prepares cost and materials estimates for client bid proposals.
- Assists senior peers on complex tests and projects, including planning, budgeting, and testing.
- Completes multiple projects concurrently, preparing tests and studies.
- Evaluates performance of parts, assemblies, or systems under simulated conditions, recording results and making recommendations.
- Develops test protocols, models, test technologies, and analyzes data.
- May assist in developing technical policies and procedures.
- Modifies prototypes, parts, assemblies, and systems to correct functional deviations.
- Develops expertise in specialty areas or deepens knowledge in a specific discipline.
- Interfaces with clients regarding project status or to gather additional information.
- Ensures client expectations for projects are met.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (mechanical, civil, electrical, or related discipline).
- Minimum of 3 years of job-related experience.
- Travel required (10%–75%, depending on assignment).
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience (desired).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (desired).
- Strong expertise in modeling, statistical, and machine learning approaches.
