Risk Analyst Intern
About the role

The Risk Analyst internship provides hands‑on experience with data‑driven techniques to identify, assess, and mitigate risk. Interns work at USAA Corporate Headquarters in San Antonio, TX, with the possibility of remote or hybrid flexibility for active‑duty military spouses and may later be placed at a USAA satellite location. The internship may lead to a two‑year risk development rotational program after graduation.
Responsibilities
- Apply foundational knowledge to support the assessment of future risk, opportunities, and efficiency.
- Help produce standard methodologies that quantify risk and aggregate exposures.
- Assist with model validation activities and model validation reporting.
- Participate in creating analytical material for cross‑functional discussions to understand business objectives and influence solution strategies.
- Compile communication materials on analytical results, findings, and solutions for governance committees and business process owners.
- Support internal/external audits, regulatory reviews, and rating agency requests.
Requirements
- Pursuing an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university, with graduation after the final day of the internship (cannot be prior to August 13 2027).
- Internship typically occurs between junior and senior years; the 2027 internship runs June 2 2027 – August 13 2027.
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Math, Computer Science, Business, Finance, or a related field.
- 0–2 years of related experience and accountability for simple to moderately complex tasks or projects.
- Foundational and conceptual knowledge of risk management, regulatory, or operations experience in banking, insurance, financial services, audit, project management, public accounting, or a related operational area.
- Foundational knowledge of data analysis tools and techniques.
- USAA does not provide visa sponsorship; candidates requiring immigration support should not apply.
Skills
- Data analytical skills with an interest in risk management.
- Detail‑oriented, strong organization, and self‑starter attitude.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel.
- Understanding of technological languages (e.g., programming languages).
Pay
The salary range for this internship is $25 – $26 per hour, plus an intern stipend to assist with expenses. Compensation is based on experience and market data and may vary by location.
