Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must stay current in CPRPR/AED/O2 and First Aid, renewed annually.
  • Bloodborne Pathogens, Sexual Harassment and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire and renewed annually.
  • Must possess a cooperative spirit committed to the Mission and Values of the YMCA.
  • Ability to relate to aquatic staff, other YMCA staff and members and program participants.
  • Will closely work with the Aquatic Director to achieve the program goals of the department.
  • Absorb and follow instructions from the Concession Lead, Aquatics Director, Aquatics Coordinators and Lifeguards.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service while working in a very fast-paced environment.
  • Must be mentally alert to dangerous situations in order to assure the safety of all participants.
  • Physically able to see, hear and project the voice across distances.
  • Ability to fit patrons of the pool for Life Jackets.
  • Ability to help set up and take down chairs, umbrellas, and any other Aquatics equipment daily for the operation of Ripper Park.
  • Help to maintain the quality of the entire pool facility.
  • Help work special events and rentals throughout the summer at Ripper Park.
  • Help track inventory of concession stand, along with Concessions Lead and Aquatic Leadership Staff.
  • Proper cash handling, greeting, serving guests at the registers, taking orders, accepting payments, and handling cash, debit, and credit cards.
  • Assist with monitoring the deck during safety breaks, weather closure and any other pool related closure where supervision on the deck is needed.
  • Assist with Check-In and Pool Counts for Pool Capacity Needs.
  • Assist with ensuring restrooms, locker rooms, and eating areas are serviced.
  • Able to move to various locations, including in and around the swimming pool and sit in the concession stand.
  • Ability to handle irate, complaining or demanding individuals without internalizing or personalizing comments made.
  • Remain physically able to demonstrate skills.
  • Must promote safety within the aquatics department assuring equipment and facility is maintained and staff is assigned.
  • Attendance at staff meeting and Aquatic Team meetings is required.
  • All reports will be kept current and turned into the Aquatic Director as scheduled.
  • Will keep quality control and recommend purchases to Aquatic Director.
  • Must work a variety of schedules including evenings and weekends.

Educational and Experience Requirements

  • Must be certified in PR/CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid. (Training provided by the y, if needed)
  • Must be 16+ years of age or older to work as a Deck Hand.
  • 16+ can work the concession stand as long as there is someone 18+ in the Concession Stand for money-taking purposes.
  • Must have personal characteristics consistent with the Character Development Values.
  • Must be able to communicate with a variety of ages.
  • Ready to begin employment by May.
