Job Summary
The Minnesota Department of Transportation seeks a Right of Way Technician. The position is available at both the Transportation Specialist and Transportation Generalist Senior levels. The primary responsibilities include preparing and completing right of way packages, managing property acquisitions, and maintaining accurate records.
Responsibilities
- Performs technical activities related to right of way packages, reconveyances, turnbacks, leases, and access control changes.
- Ensures compliance with statutes, policies, and regulations during reconveyances, turnbacks, leases, and access control changes.
- Acquires right of way and manages property owned by MnDOT to meet project schedules.
- Maintains right of way records and prepares exhibits for hearings and trials.
- Uses CADD software to prepare and correct electronic files for final right of way mapping.
- Communicates with the public and property owners regarding right of way activities.
- Organizes and researches information for field survey crews.
- Prepares and reviews complex building demolition sheets and right of way non-encroachment certificates.
- Notifies maintenance of right of way encroachments and conducts field reviews.
- Substitutes for Right of Way managers in project meetings and customer service requests.
Qualifications
- Transportation Specialist Level: Four years of experience performing right of way activities, including CADD, plus three years of experience in surveys, design, road maintenance, materials/soils, permits, etc., with one year in CADD.
- Transportation Generalist Senior Level: Two years of experience performing right of way activities, or two years of experience in inspection and processing of permits, construction plan reading, surveying, design, pre-design, Traffic Engineering, right of way review, and water resource plan review.
