About the role
This position provides support to craft workers at marine project locations. Incumbents perform a variety of tasks in support of Crane Operators, Pile Drivers, Welders, Carpenters, and other skilled workers, working closely with a Barge Foreman, Crane Operator, Boat Captain, and other site field personnel.
Responsibilities
- Works as assigned by the Barge Foreman to ensure successful completion of marine construction projects.
- Signals or verbally directs operators engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and materials.
- Tests rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
- Attaches loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools.
- Selects gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules.
- Controls movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces using chain falls, gin poles, gallows frames, and other equipment.
- Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
- Assists in unloading and assembling crane or other hoisting equipment for piledriving activities.
- Unloads and assembles piledriving hammer and leads.
- Unloads various types of piling – concrete, pipe, timber, steel sheet piling, etc.
- Assists in fueling, lubricating, and maintaining the piledriving hammer.
- Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives to comply with State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by immediate supervision.
- Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary or trade secret information.
- Ensures personal safety and the safety of co-workers; authorized and obligated to stop work if an unsafe condition is observed.
- Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and Company policies and procedures.
- Reports violations of laws, regulations, or Company policies promptly.
- Performs related administrative and technical duties such as certification training, safety training, and procedure review.
Requirements
- A minimum of two (2) years crane rigging and/or operations experience on land and on barges, or equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints or site plans.
- General knowledge of construction rigging, including use of slings, cable chokers, spreader bars, and multi-part load blocks.
- Must observe and fulfill all safety responsibilities.
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, and personal flotation devices.
- Must remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately.
- Capable of evacuating work areas in a timely manner during emergencies.
- Ability to walk, step, climb, or move between locations on job sites, including getting on and off work barges, boats, vessels, or dock facilities of varying heights.
- Capable of wearing welding face shields, personal flotation devices, and self-contained breathing apparatus.
- Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, squat, climb, or sit for long periods.
- Repetitive movements involving feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, and back.
- Climbing vertical ladders to heights of 40’-50’.
- Working in confined spaces and at elevated heights.
- Lifting and carrying 50 lb. objects as required.
- Adapting to extreme temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure.
