Essential Functions
- Selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, shackles, clamping devices, blocks, synthetic slings and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.
- Has knowledge of various size wire ropes breaking strengths.
- Selects pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms with bolts and clamps.
- Attaches load with grappling devices such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains to crane hook.
- Gives directions to Overhead Crane Operator or Hoisting Engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material handled.
- Sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment.
- Uses proper hand signals to signal crane operators and radio communication with crane operators.
- Visually inspects all rigging gear such as wire rope, shackles synthetic slings, chain hoist, come-alongs, hooks, and all other rigging gear to ensure safety is always first.
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Physical Demands
- A range of motion sufficient to perform general lifting, carrying, bending, climbing, working at heights, extended walking or standing, etc.
Work Environment
- Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke.
- Work may be carried on indoors or outdoors, and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.
