About the role
The Rice360 Institute for Global Health Technologies (Rice360), a multi-disciplinary institute at Rice University, is seeking a Global Health Post-Baccalaureate Fellow to support research and development of low-cost healthcare technologies.
Responsibilities
- Conducts basic research and prototype development
- Collects and analyzes data
- Proofreads and edits published written work
- Drafts abstracts, articles, reports, and other publications
- Affixes to project management responsibilities
- Maintains comprehensive documentation for project longevity
- Assists in developing new technologies
- Interacts with clinicians and external stakeholders
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physical sciences, preferably in bioengineering/biomedical engineering
- 1+ year(s) of related experience (can be gained during education or internship) in developing biomedical engineering technologies and/or in the healthcare field
- Master’s degree in engineering or physical sciences, or additional related education on an equivalent year for year basis
- Experience developing technology for low- or under-resourced settings, preferably sub-Saharan Africa
- Experience working in low-resource settings or with non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
- Experience working in an institution of higher education
- Experience working in a highly collaborative and multi-cultural environment
- Knowledge of global health challenges and best practices
- Knowledge of CAD and related software such as SolidWorks or Fusion360
- Ability to write, proof-read, and follow protocols
- Ability to work under deadline with flexibility, tact, good judgment, discretion, and take initiative
- Demonstrated sensitivity to low resource settings
Qualifications
- Knowledge of software statistical packages such as Stata, SAS, R, or HLM
- Good analytical and research skills
- Good verbal and written communications skills including proofreading
- Good presentation skills

Pay
Hiring Range: $46,000 - $48,000/year, contingent upon qualifications and experience.
Schedule
This is a full-time position (Monday-Friday 8am–5pm) based in Houston, TX, with occasional early morning, evening, or weekend work required to accommodate time zone differences for important meetings with teams across sub-Saharan Africa, in the US, and the UK.
