RF Engineer (Engineer - RF 3)
This opportunity resides with Warfare Systems (WS), a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. Warfare Systems comprises cyber and mission IT; electronic warfare; and C5ISR systems. About the Role
Huntington Ingalls is seeking a motivated RF Engineer 3 to join a team developing advanced systems and technology. As part of the Electronic Systems team in Syracuse, NY, you will help advance leading-edge electronics and communications technologies. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives on solving challenging technical problems and works with minimal oversight. You will collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team to design, develop, and deliver products with a focus on the end user and customer.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to RF analysis activities to develop requirements and design specifications.
- Model and simulate complex embedded RF systems.
- Design, develop, document, and test RF circuits and systems, including amplifiers and antennas.
- Perform hands-on testing and troubleshooting of RF systems using equipment such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, and network analyzers.
- Work with software-defined radio (SDR) systems and interfaces, including waveform development and testing.
- Train and mentor junior engineers.
- Regularly interface and coordinate efforts with a cross-functional team of software, hardware, mechanical, and product engineers.
Requirements
- 5 years of relevant industry experience with a Bachelor’s in a related field; 3 years with a Master’s; or 0 years with a PhD or Juris Doctorate in a related field. Alternatively, a High School Diploma or equivalent with 9 years of relevant industry experience.
- Must be a U.S. citizen. Applicants may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for complex RF systems, with an aptitude for creative and logical solutions.
- Knowledge of RF circuit design, including amplifiers, filters, and components.
- Experience in RF analysis, requirements derivation, and system design.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with RF/digital equipment test and measurement techniques.
- Experience with RF front-end design.
- Familiarity with electronic warfare (EW), radar, and/or communication technologies.
- Familiarity with wireless protocol PHY layers.
- Experience with signal detection, classification, direction finding, and geolocation.
- Experience with MATLAB for modeling and simulation; Simulink experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with Python or LabVIEW for rapid prototyping and automating testing.
- Experience in concept creation and rapid prototyping.
- Existing SECRET clearance is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment.
- Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
Pay
Anticipated salary range: $99,161 - $140,000 per year. The final offer considers factors such as the role’s function, a candidate’s education, training, work experience, and key skills.
