Job Summary
We are seeking a driven RF Engineer specializing in Small Cell and DAS deployments. This position delivers critical RF design and project management support across small cell sales, project implementation, and maintenance, with 60% office/remote work and significant field collaboration. Occasional travel to Denver or Seattle and local project site visits are required. Candidates must have hands-on experience with small cell technologies, LTE/5G, and RF propagation tools.
About the Role
This position serves as the technical lead for small cell and DAS network design, implementation, and optimization. It involves interfacing directly with customers and fostering engineering partnerships. Responsibilities also include designing and validating node candidate sites, creating/modifying power designs, ensuring regulatory compliance, coordinating multi-node SCN system optimization and troubleshooting, managing vendor relationships, and providing ongoing network support.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical lead for small cell and DAS network design, implementation, and optimization.
- Interface directly with customers and foster engineering partnerships.
- Own DAS and small cell design: site selection, CW testing, data analysis, system modeling, and proposal documentation.
- Review node candidate sites, validate A&E drawings, and provide wiring diagrams/BOM for node and power designs.
- Create/modify power designs (AC/DC) using AutoCAD.
- Ensure regulatory compliance (FCC, OSHA, city requirements) for all deployments.
- Capture and maintain detailed documentation and system updates for all assets and changes.
- Support national RF initiatives, integration, and technology pilots.
- Coordinate or perform multi-node SCN system optimization and troubleshooting.
- Manage vendor relationships, RF configuration, and equipment forecasting.
- Provide ongoing network support: configure, test, optimize, commission, and troubleshoot performance issues.
- Conduct field verification of deployments using test equipment and reporting results.
Requirements
- BSEE, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science required; MSEE preferred.
- 2-4 years of RF engineering experience, with proficiency in small cell architecture and deployment.
- Experience with: LTE, CBRS, UMTS, CDMA, and 5G (preferred).
- Must possess: RF Design & Propagation (Atoll, IBWave, Mapinfo), Small Cell deployment, Power Engineering, Project Management.
- Skilled with small cell RRUs, DAS design, 5-Step Commissioning, network optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with RF test equipment (power meters, spectrum analyzers, PIM/Sweep, pilot scanner, TEMs phones, CPE, power density probes).
- AutoCAD expertise for node/power design.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, Visio, Power BI; quick learner of new analytics and GIS tools.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills; able to work on multiple simultaneous projects.
- Ability to adapt to technical and process changes, communicate clearly, and deliver results under pressure.
