UNLV Research Protections seeks a remote Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) Education and Accreditation Manager to serve as the subject-matter expert for the university’s HRPP.
About the role
Working with the Director and Assistant Director, the Education and Accreditation Manager identifies, implements, and evaluates educational programming for the UNLV research community. The role supports HRPP and Office of Research Integrity leadership by setting goals, planning, organizing, and leading educational initiatives related to research involving human subjects to foster a culture of compliance that protects the safety, rights, and welfare of research subjects.
The manager serves as a representative of the HRPP at UNLV, providing proactive and on-demand education, and manages communications from the HRPP to the research community. The position also develops and maintains institutional standard operating procedures (SOPs) and forms, manages the Office of Research Integrity web pages, and serves as the point-of-contact for the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protections Programs (AAHRPP). Responsibilities include managing the reaccreditation process, conducting institutional assessments and gap analyses, updating policies and SOPs, leading site visits, and preparing annual reports.
Additionally, this role conducts quality assurance and quality improvement (QA/QI) activities for the HRPP, collaborating closely with the HRPP unit, RICO, and other compliance officers. The position implements continuous program improvements, which may include education for researchers, HRPP staff, and IRB members.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a subject-matter expert for the HRPP, identifying, implementing, and evaluating educational programming for the UNLV research community.
- Support HRPP and Office of Research Integrity leadership in setting goals, planning, organizing, and leading educational programming related to human subjects research.
- Represent the HRPP at UNLV, providing proactive and on-demand education to foster a culture of compliance.
- Manage communications from the HRPP to the research community.
- Develop and maintain institutional standard operating procedures (SOPs) and forms in collaboration with the Director and Assistant Director.
- Manage the Office of Research Integrity web pages.
- Serve as the point-of-contact for the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protections Programs (AAHRPP).

- Conduct quality assurance and quality improvement (QA/QI) activities for the HRPP.
- Collaborate with the HRPP unit, RICO, and other compliance officers to implement continuous program improvements.
- Provide education for researchers, HRPP staff, and IRB members as part of QA/QI efforts.
Requirements
- At least five years of experience in human subjects research administration.
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
- An IRB Professional certificate (CIP).
- Experience with AAHRPP accreditation and/or reaccreditation.
- Experience delivering educational programming to researchers.
- Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience conducting QA/QI activities with the goal of program improvement for HRPP.
- 7-10 years of experience in human subjects research administration.
- Master’s degree or PhD in a related field.
- Experience using the Cayuse Human Ethics platform.
- Educational background in pedagogy and educational practice, particularly for adult learners.
- Basic knowledge of accessibility considerations (e.g., document accessibility, captioning of videos).
- Basic knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS), particularly Canvas/Instructure products.
Knowledge
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in research administration issues, including regulatory compliance related to human subjects research (federal, state, and local laws), ethical research practices, common research designs, and HRPP operations and best practices.
- Subject-matter expertise in human subjects research regulations, including the Common Rule, FDA regulations, and associated OHRP and FDA guidance.

- Demonstrated experience as an effective educator.
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience facilitating asynchronous and synchronous education in a complex university environment.
- Demonstrated experience successfully collaborating across units to accomplish cross-unit goals and projects.
- Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS), such as Canvas/Instructure products (preferred).
- Experience using digital tools to deliver or enhance educational program delivery (preferred).

- Ability to analyze situations and data trends (preferred).
- Ability to design and implement changes to HRPP/IRB-related processes and procedures based on feedback received and/or generated through QA/QI activities (preferred).
