Key Responsibilities
- Review incoming Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocol submissions for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to submission requirements.
- Assign submissions to the appropriate review pathway (e.g., exempt, expedited, full board) and reviewer based on regulatory criteria.
- Coordinate logistics for IRB meetings, including scheduling and virtual/in-person setup.
- Document the vote during the institutional review board meeting.
- Send notifications to investigators regarding study status.
- Perform administrative closures of studies when there is study abandonment.
- Retain and reconcile paper and electronic records.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or combination of education and related experience in lieu of a degree required.
- Experience: 3+ years of relevant experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using the Huron Electronic Institutional Review Board (eIRB) platform.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Experience using Adobe Acrobat.
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
Hiring Range
$31.00 – $34.00 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.
Position Type & Work Location
This is a Non-Exempt-level, benefited position. Based in Charlottesville, VA, and eligible for a hybrid schedule, with additional on-site presence as needed, after required in-person training and in accordance with UVA’s remote work guidelines.
