About the role

The Revenue Tax Auditor position involves conducting audits on behalf of the State of Indiana on various taxpayers. Key responsibilities include analyzing books and records of businesses to ensure compliance with tax laws, maintaining high levels of customer focus, and using innovative methods to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze books and records of businesses to ensure compliance with tax laws
  • Ensure the highest level of customer focus with taxpayers and their representatives
  • Generate data requests and extract, evaluate, and use information from a variety of business records
  • Interview and solicit pertinent information from taxpayers and their representatives
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, taxpayers, and others involved in the audit process
  • Travel overnight to taxpayer locations as needed

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and auditing standards and procedures
  • General knowledge of statutes, regulations, and case law pertinent to tax compliance
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, taxpayers, and others involved in the audit process
  • Ability to travel overnight in the performance of assigned audits
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 15 hours of accounting coursework and at least 7 years tax auditing experience

Pay

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.

Schedule

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
