Revenue Cycle Analyst
About the Role
Assists in the overall general daily operations of the Patient Accounts Department, exhibiting exemplary customer service skills when dealing with co-workers, the public, vendors, payers, or department heads. Responsible for payment posting, timely billing, and follow-up on all assigned accounts until paid or adjusted according to policies. Analyzes account history to expedite payment and improve cash flow.
Responsibilities
- Assures claim batches and payment processing are performed within departmental guidelines and works directly with the director and co-workers to meet protocols, procedures, and daily expectations.
- Follows up with payers regarding the collection of past-due accounts, handling a minimum of 45 claims or dates of service per day.
- Communicates effectively with the director to report problems and provide follow-up on status.
- Works with accounting staff on daily cash reconciliation.
- Regularly meets with the team and director to discuss problems, workflow issues, and general departmental concerns.
- Possesses in-depth knowledge of HIPAA standards, compliance, and follows appropriate reporting procedures.
- Monitors reports for compliance with expected standards.
- Assists with client statement issues as needed.
- Initiates billing on assigned claims in an expeditious manner through electronic format and audits claims to ensure pertinent information is captured, including authorizations, clinical notes, and treatment plans.
- Maintains control of claims billed and pending to ensure full accountability for all assigned accounts.
- Follows up on all unpaid claims over 30 days and analyzes aging reports to identify details of open account balances.
- Maintains documentation of all collection activity and advises the director of workload problems that may prevent timely follow-up on accounts.
- Tracks unbilled claims weekly and notifies the director of trends or issues.
- Works EOB/ERAs daily to identify denials or short-paid claims.
- Collaborates with other departments on eligibility issues and necessary documentation to ensure timely collection of accounts.
- Demonstrates professionally aggressive yet conscientious collection efforts.
- Submits account adjustments to the director for approval as appropriate.
- Submits completed refund request documentation to the director within policy guidelines.
- Resolves credit balance accounts on a monthly basis.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the director.
Requirements
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- 5+ years of related experience in a high-volume healthcare setting with health insurance billing and accounts receivable duties.
- Extensive knowledge of healthcare insurance billing and payor-specific billing guidelines.
- Knowledge of Excel, Word, and other IT systems relevant to the organization’s workflow.
- Exceptional medical terminology and coding knowledge.
- HCFA and UB knowledge.
- Mental health billing experience preferred.
