Return-to-Work Specialist

As a Return-to-Work Specialist, you will negotiate, facilitate, and monitor the successful return to work of claimants within appropriate disability duration guidelines. Your role includes determining physical tolerances and vocational skills required for employment positions, assisting with job site modifications or adaptive equipment, and ensuring compliance with medical, legal, and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities
- Determine objective, quantifiable, medically supported work restrictions for assigned claims.
- Facilitate return-to-work (RTW) efforts through negotiation with clients, treatment providers, and claimants; complete all vocational/RTW-related jurisdictional or client-directed documentation and reporting.
- Document client contact in claim notes per Sedgwick CMS standards and assist case management staff in making decisions regarding a client’s competence for specific positions.
- Adhere to medical and legal regulations and accreditation standards in all written communication.
- Develop contacts with company managers to introduce programs and represent clients.
- Contact employers to gather specific employment information (e.g., training/education needed, physical demands, wages, benefits, availability) and ascertain physical tolerances and vocational skills required for positions.
- Assist in modifying job sites or obtaining adaptive equipment as needed and communicate labor trends to co-workers.
- Maintain regular contact with clients post-placement, following program guidelines, and suggest adjustments to rehabilitation plans as needed.
- Work closely with team members to ensure smooth transitions from medical case management to job placement.
- Prepare reports documenting research results.
- Perform other tasks related to vocational evaluation and work adjustment training as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) designation preferred.
- Ability to meet deadlines with clear conceptual thinking, excellent judgment, and discretion.
Work environment requirements include computer keyboarding, hearing, vision, talking, and the ability to engage in critical thinking and problem-solving.

Pay
For the jurisdiction noted in this job posting, the range of starting pay for this role is $48,000 - $63,000 per year.
