Responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Association’s defined benefit (DB) (cash balance plan), 457 plan, and defined contribution (DC) (401(k)) retirement plans.
Responsibilities
- Administer retirement plans, including contribution/funding and distribution reconciliations.
- Analyze and ensure plan design aligns with the Plan document.
- Monitor, document, communicate, and ensure legal and regulatory compliance for defined benefit (including cash balance feature), defined contribution, and 457b plans.
- Design and execute retirement planning education curriculum for staff orientation and education sessions.
- Maintain internal accounting and pension control schedules.
- Participate in annual pension and financial audits.
- Serve as a primary resource to design, prepare, and deliver key management reports.
- Assist in developing and communicating guidelines, timelines, and resources to support the association’s budget processes.
- Perform and complete other projects, including ad hoc and routine reports and analysis for internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related business field required.
- 5-8 years of relevant business experience.
- At least 2-5 years of experience with defined benefit (cash balance plan experience preferred), defined contribution pension administration, and 457b plan.
- Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) or Retirement Plans Associate (RPA) certification a plus.
Skills
- Familiarity with ERISA, DOL regulations, and GAAP guidelines.
- Comprehensive knowledge of accounting and budgeting principles.
- Demonstrated ability to understand the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) and its application to pension plans.
- Experience collecting and analyzing data from various sources to inform decision-making.
- Knowledge and experience with automated financial accounting systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong customer service orientation.
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills; ability to prioritize and follow through on commitments.
- Strong mathematical, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Works under the direction of the Director, Budget and Pensions, with authority to complete established objectives and implement policy and procedures. Exhibits independence of thought and initiative, requiring only limited supervision for routine duties.
