Retirement Benefit Analyst
About the role
The Retirement Benefit Analyst will handle funding processes for North American qualified and non-qualified retirement plans, perform retirement plan audits and reconciliations, and manage data for Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution plans with third-party vendors. The role supports the retirement benefits administration team on projects, acquisitions, and divestitures. The Analyst must understand plan documents, administration policies, ERISA, and complex governmental regulations for U.S. and Canadian retirement plans. Strong executive functioning skills, attention to detail, and independent problem-solving are essential. The position involves regular interaction with third-party administrators, attorneys, and accountants, requiring clear communication of complex subject matter.
Responsibilities
- Manage the funding process from the payroll system to vendors for U.S. 401(k) and Canadian RRSP/DPSP retirement plans, including analyzing and reconciling payroll data to ensure timely and accurate wire transfers to recordkeepers.
- Administer the nonqualified deferred compensation plan, collaborating with the Benefits/Compensation team and IT on annual enrollment, including reviewing/updating plan documents, testing, auditing, and implementing enrollment elections, and performing weekly funding reconciliations.
- Manage weekly demographic data feeds to third-party recordkeepers for U.S. and Canadian Defined Contribution and Defined Benefit plans, resolving data errors, supporting inbound interface files, and auditing data between TPA and HRIS systems.
- Review 401(k) loan delinquency reports, analyze loan data, and administer plan loans in compliance with plan provisions and IRS & DOL regulations.
- Monitor employee benefit level changes due to hires, rehires, transfers, or terminations.
- Support the Retirement Team with special projects such as amalgamations, acquisitions, divestitures, labor renegotiations, and vendor changes in both the U.S. and Canada.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, business, or a related field.
- 2-3 years of experience in finance/accounting, with a preference for benefits or retirement plan administration support.
- Working knowledge of ERISA and retirement benefit regulations in the U.S. and Canada (preferred).
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Workday payroll system and HRIS is preferred.
