About the Role
Assists with overseeing and may direct the daily activities of retail store operations, ensuring high customer service levels with a focus on meeting sales goals.
Responsibilities
- Assists in daily operations of retail sales, quotes/estimates, material take-offs, generating purchase orders, pricing, and product delivery.
- Maintains retail floor quality, including signage, pricing, inventory selection, and promotional displays; verifies special advertised merchandise is in stock and properly signed and priced.
- Coordinates product knowledge training for sales personnel and customers.
- Ensures compliance with credit and check cashing procedures.
- Assists with loss prevention programs, including security, safety, and maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and property.
- Investigates and resolves customer issues related to order processing, deliveries, inventory, pricing discrepancies, and determines corrective actions.
- May prepare purchase orders to maintain adequate inventory, specifying product types, quantities, and delivery schedules.
- Assists with sales, inventory, and schedule reports; collaborates with management to improve workflow, simplify reporting, or implement cost reductions.
- Opens and closes the store as scheduled.
- Leads and directs employees, including assigning tasks, monitoring progress, providing guidance, addressing escalated issues, and training less experienced team members.
- May provide input on employee performance to management.
- Understands and observes all safety procedures to prevent injury; attends periodic safety meetings and may recommend safety improvements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED and five years of retail or sales experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills
- Working knowledge of company products and the building industry.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong math skills.
- Aptitude for reading and understanding moderately complex instructions or drawings.
- Broad computer knowledge, including Point-of-Sale (POS) equipment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and enterprise resource planning (ERP) programs.
Work Environment & Physical Activity
- Subject to both typical office environments and outside locations with temperature and weather variations.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 80 pounds occasionally.
- Frequent standing and walking for extended periods.
