Retail Specialist - Cannabis

About the Role

A Specialist’s main responsibility is providing superior customer service, facilitating efficient sales transactions, and maintaining the sales floor. Specialists educate customers, listen with empathy, and ensure successful purchases while partnering with leadership to support daily store operations. This role adheres to company policies and compliance regulations governing cannabis and non-cannabis product sales under the supervision of the Store Management Team.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a positive, friendly experience by engaging customers through conversation and exceptional service.
• Enhance the store environment by prioritizing customer interactions over tasks.
• Maintain excellent floor presence, including product placement and time management.
• Prioritize product knowledge and participate in store trainings for ongoing education.
• Communicate department insights to supervisors and assist in upholding customer service standards.
• Work collaboratively with the team to achieve common goals and support peer development.
• Assist in shipping, receiving, and maintaining organized backstock areas.
• Operate point-of-sale systems accurately and ensure compliance with BCC, State, and City regulations.
• Follow emergency and safety procedures to protect employees and customers.
• Support loss prevention awareness and adhere to related practices.
• Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
• Assist in merchandising and displaying products to maintain a clean, organized store environment.
• Adapt to business changes, act professionally, and provide constructive feedback.
• Take initiative, make smart decisions, and accept responsibility for performance.
• Communicate effectively at all levels and develop partnerships within the team.

Requirements

• Must be 21+ years old.
• Minimum of 1-year experience in customer service in a retail environment.
• Must pass a federal background check via Live Scan in certain markets.
• B.A. preferred, but experience is paramount.
• Experience in highly regulated businesses is desirable.
• Previous retail or cannabis experience preferred.
• Strong leadership skills and confidence in communicating at the store level.
• Ability to achieve sales and shrinkage targets.

Work Environment

This role operates in a professional cannabis store environment and routinely uses standard office and store equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and POS systems. The position requires working evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk, and hear. The role frequently involves standing, walking, using hands or feet, reaching with hands and arms, and lifting a minimum of 50 lbs.

Schedule

This is a part-time or full-time non-exempt hourly position. Hours may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays. Travel to corporate offices or other store locations for training may be required.
