Retail Shortage Control - Part Time

Location: Westland, MI (35555 Warren Road, 48185) – Regular Part-Time role

About the role

As a Shortage Control Associate (SCA), you’ll help create a secure shopping environment while delivering exceptional customer service. Your presence at store entrances, exits, and high-risk areas will mitigate theft and foster a safe, enjoyable experience for customers and associates. You’ll engage with customers and colleagues in a manner consistent with our company’s core values—providing confident, friendly, and energetic greetings with every interaction.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a professional appearance at all times, adhering to designated dress standards, including radio and earpiece
• Stand positioned at the front of the store, remaining vigilant and aware of surroundings
• Greet every customer entering or exiting the store with a warm smile and a loud, friendly greeting to promote a sense of control and security
• Monitor the entrance for the entire duration of every shift to reduce opportunities for theft, shoplifting, and other dishonest activities
• Build trust and respect among customers and associates through confident, positive interactions and expertise in shortage reduction programs
• Identify and report theft incidents or suspicious subjects to the Manager on Duty
• Possess knowledge of top shortage areas and support theft-reduction programs
• Communicate theft prevention information during store rallies, collaborating with the Manager on Duty
• Conduct bag and package checks on store and corporate associates to ensure adherence to safety and security standards
• Train associates on shortage reduction programs and processes
• Role-model safety as a top priority and address unsafe practices promptly

Requirements

• 1+ years of experience in customer service, hospitality, retail, Asset Protection, Loss Prevention, or Operations (preferred)
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while visually monitoring the store environment
• Maintain confidentiality at all times
• Ability to review, analyze, and comprehend business trends
• Exhibit a positive demeanor, strong posture, and energetic greeting
• Work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with disciplined decision-making and detailed focus
• Excellent communication skills with customers and coworkers
• Strong leadership skills to foster productive business relationships
• Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required
