About the role

Retail Scan Associates visit a designated selection of stores each week to scan all product barcodes on displays, aisle locations, and aisle end caps. The data collected is analyzed to improve sales performance for both the product brand and the retailer. Associates use a downloadable mobile app to record barcodes and, for about 45% of the items scanned, provide quantity information. The role offers workplace independence, flexibility in hours, and consistent weekly assignments throughout the year, including holiday weeks.

Responsibilities

  • Visit assigned stores (grocery, convenience, drug, pet, and mass‑merchandise) each week.
  • Scan barcodes on product displays, shelves, and end caps throughout the store.
  • Record quantity data for approximately 45% of the scanned products.
  • Complete full‑store display scanning within the weekly deadline.
  • Handle “Custom Projects” that require additional detail on main stocking locations, adding 30 minutes to 2 hours of work per store as needed.
  • Maintain accuracy and quality in data collection to meet client expectations.
  • Travel to stores using a reliable vehicle and submit travel time for pay (minus the first and last 15 minutes).
  • Adhere to weekly deadlines and communicate any issues promptly.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license.
  • Reliable vehicle with minimum state auto‑insurance coverage.
  • Ability to stand on your feet for long periods and navigate store aisles.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 lb, reach 6 ft, and bend/stoop/stretch.
  • Capability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, arm, and leg movements for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Deadline‑driven self‑starter with reliable Wi‑Fi access.
  • Tech‑savvy and comfortable using a mobile scanning app.
  • High school diploma or GED (preferred).

Competitive Compensation: $15‑$16 per hour.

Schedule

This is a permanent part‑time position. Base hours average 4‑5 hours per week across all stores, with additional 1‑2 hours per week per store for special projects. Demand is higher from January through June. Specific workdays for the Grand Forks, ND location (Wal‑Mart) are Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
