Retail Sales Manager

About the role
The Retail Sales Manager provides supervision, oversight, and management of Elevate Branson’s thrift store operations to generate revenue that supports Elevate Branson administration and programs. The manager leads all aspects of store functionality, including sales, donation processing, staff and volunteer supervision, internal fiscal controls, and promotion within the community. The manager also oversees the merchandising and sale of Elevate Branson branded merchandise, ensuring it is prominently featured and effectively displayed. This role is responsible for creating and maintaining an inviting, organized, and visually engaging store environment through thoughtful displays and presentation standards that enhance the customer experience. The manager is a member of the Senior Management Team.
Responsibilities
- Oversees procedures for store operations, including opening and closing the store; procedures for accepting, sorting, pricing donations; security procedures for staff and volunteers, handling of cash, and other relevant procedures as needed.
- Oversees the processing of donated items, organizes donated pick-ups, and manages the rotation of items and the disposal of donated items in a timely fashion. Processes include: sorting, tagging, displaying, and disposing of donated items; providing direction to staff and volunteers; sets standards for merchandise and communicates same.
- Manages supply inventory and completes purchase orders as necessary.
- Experience with “point of sale,” computerized sales & inventory systems; Square system is a plus.
- Understands budget management and contributes to the development of annual revenue projections and meets financial goals.
- Maintains and increases knowledge of resale, thrift, consignment, and retail trends through daily reading (websites, publications) and participation in webinars, staff meetings, and periodic offsite training.
- Meets periodically with other thrift shop managers for networking.
- Participates in training required by accreditation standards, plus performance and quality improvement efforts.
- Completes and submits all required and assigned paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
- Coordinates the hiring, supervision, evaluation, and professional development of staff under manager’s direct supervision.
- Establishes sales goals for staff and lead volunteers.
- Assesses the store’s need for staff and volunteers.
- Creates weekly and daily store sales and events, using social media, coupons, etc.
- Develops schedules for paid staff and works with the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure the development of a daily schedule of volunteer coverage to maintain adequate personnel at the store to accomplish tasks and respond to customers.
- Trains and supervises store volunteers; helps with recruiting of volunteers.
- Provides supervision for staff to include regular and ongoing monitoring of work productivity and work habits; performance evaluations of individual staff as required by supervisor; review of job descriptions as required by supervisor; timely reporting to supervisor of performance excellence or disciplinary issues.
- Maintains current knowledge of Elevate Branson policies and procedures as they relate to personnel; monitors staff for adherence to policies and procedures; takes corrective action as necessary to ensure staff is in compliance.
- Conducts regularly scheduled communication with staff to provide direction, guidance, and oversight to personnel.
- Consults with staff on a regular basis, addressing concerns and sharing ideas.
- Provides timely direction and written and verbal feedback to staff.
- Ensures staff is fully trained and competent to perform the elements of their job as defined by their job description.
- Ensures staff is knowledgeable of Elevate Branson policies and procedures and are compliant.
- Analyzes sales and current inventory in order to provide projections and recommendations to retain customers and increase sales.
- Oversees the display of merchandise inside the store to enhance the appearance and appeal of the store.
- Promotes excellence in the customer service experience for all visitors to the thrift store through staff training, stakeholder surveys, and focus groups.
- Acknowledges and follows financial policies of the agency.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Oversees the merchandising, presentation, and promotion of Elevate Branson branded merchandise, ensuring products are attractively displayed, well-stocked, and effectively showcased to maximize visibility and sales.
- Creates and maintains an inviting, organized, and visually appealing store environment through thoughtful floor layouts, seasonal and thematic displays, and consistent brand-focused presentation standards.
- Develops and implements visual merchandising strategies that reflect Elevate Branson’s mission and values, enhancing the customer experience and encouraging repeat visits.
- Monitors sales trends of branded merchandise and adjusts placement, inventory levels, and promotional efforts to optimize performance.
- Ensures staff and volunteers understand the value and purpose behind branded items and are equipped to promote them confidently to customers.
- Regularly evaluates the effectiveness of displays, signage, and in-store marketing materials, making improvements to increase customer engagement and store revenue.
Requirements

- Good computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Minimum 2 years of retail sales management experience.
- Leadership and organization/administration skills, as well as the ability to use technology for both recruitment and support of volunteers.
- Proven track record of effective team-building.
Physical Requirements
- Requires ability to sit up to 3-7 hours per day with frequent walking, standing, bending, squatting, pulling, and pushing.
- Occasionally may be required to lift items up to 10 pounds to a height up to 6 feet and 11-25 pounds to a height of 3 feet.
- Occasionally may be required to carry items up to 30 pounds for distances up to 25 feet.
