Retail Sales Associate Part-Time FLEX

About the Role

The purpose of this position is to act as the face of Down To Earth, offering an enriching shopping experience for our customer base by providing top-notch customer service and facilitating sales through customer education and product expertise, all while supporting our company culture and business mission. This role also involves maintaining inventory levels on the sales floor, keeping displays stocked and presentable, observing for shoplifting, and ensuring the cleanliness of the merchandise. Additionally, the position includes administrative duties such as cashiering and answering phones.

Responsibilities

• Greet every customer with a warm, welcoming smile.
• Facilitate sales on the sales floor and provide top-notch customer service 100% of the time.
• Work as part of a team to educate customers about products and their intended use.
• Answer customer questions or direct them to the appropriate employee.
• Perform cashiering duties and politely answer phones, directing inquiries to the appropriate department or person.
• Stock product on shelves and maintain displays and product presentation.
• Price and merchandise products under the direction of the departmental supervisor.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of merchandise, including back stock areas.
• Observe for shoplifting and assist with bi-annual inventory duties.
• Communicate, integrate, and interact productively and respectfully with staff, customers, and vendors.
• Move or transport items up to 50 lbs.
• Work in any department as directed by the Manager on Duty.
• Follow all company policies and ensure other employees do the same.
• Report safety issues, employee accidents, and customer incidents to the appropriate supervisor.
• Maintain the general cleanliness and appearance of the retail store, including shared break areas, restrooms, and aisles for wheelchair access.
• Adhere to the DTE dress code, including wearing a name tag and proper DTE attire (apron or DTE logo clothing).

Requirements

• Previous retail experience.
• High School Degree or equivalent.
• General ability to problem-solve and basic math skills.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Skills

• Garden and Nursery Sales Associates: Expertise in plant identification and organic plant care.
• Housewares Sales Associates: Knowledge of cooking, baking, fermentation, canning, food preservation, and houseplant care.

Physical Skills and Abilities

• Standing or mobile for extended periods of time.
• Ability to stand, walk, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds.
• Good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp.
• Visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment, and read a computer screen.

Equipment and Tools

• Retail Pro inventory and point-of-sale software.
• Outlook, multi-line phone, and copy machine.

Schedule

• Required to be available to work weekends and holidays.

Environmental Conditions

This position is based at our Eugene retail store. The Houseware and Garden departments work inside a heated space, while the Nursery is outdoors and exposed to the elements. Down To Earth maintains a non-smoking, casual environment. A high degree of personal cleanliness and appropriate dress is required.
