About the role

King Arthur Baking Company, a 100% employee‑owned benefit corporation founded in 1790, is seeking a Retail Sales Associate I to deliver a consistent and positive in‑store customer experience. The associate will assist customers, process transactions, maintain merchandise standards, support daily store operations, and may help with basic sales‑floor leadership and opening or closing procedures.

Responsibilities

• Greet and acknowledge customers promptly and provide assistance throughout the shopping experience.
• Assist customers in locating merchandise and provide accurate product information.
• Support the team in achieving daily and monthly sales goals.
• Support store opening and closing procedures, including register functions, as assigned.
• Maintain the store’s appearance through cleaning, organizing, restocking, and signage upkeep.
• Communicate consistently and clearly with retail team members, shift leads, and managers.
• Support community activations and events as needed.

Experience and Education

• 0–1 years of experience in a retail‑related field.
• Flexible schedule availability, including evenings and weekends.
• Basic math and cash‑handling skills.
• Basic computer skills and experience with point‑of‑sale (POS) systems.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Ability to handle, stock, and organize packaged dry food products, lifting and carrying items up to approximately 40 lb, with or without assistance.
• Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and squat as needed to stock shelves and maintain product displays.
• Use of hands and arms to handle merchandise, operate a POS system, and use standard retail tools and equipment.
• Visual identification of products, labels, and pricing information, with or without corrective devices.
• Effective communication with customers and team members.
• Regular exposure to environments where food allergens may be present; occasional touching and tasting of food products containing allergens.
• Work performed in a retail store with frequent interaction with customers and coworkers; may involve varying temperatures, background noise, and periods of high activity.
• Schedule may include weekends, evenings, and holidays based on business needs.

Pay

$18.57 to $19.52 per hour worked, based on experience.

Schedule

Year‑round part‑time role, averaging 20 hours per week. Weekend and holiday availability required.
