Retail Sales Associate
About the role
The CHEF’STORE Sales Associate helps maintain an atmosphere of superior customer service, promoting the US Foods strategy: Great Food, Made Easy. As a key member of our team, you will fill a variety of roles, including Cashier, Stocker, and Customer Courtesy. During a shift, you may work in any of our departments—front end, Meat/Frozen, Produce/Dairy, Dry Goods/Culinary Equipment & Supply—based on customer and business needs. You may also assist during special store events such as Vendor Fairs, sales floor resets, and inventory processes.
Schedule
Full-Time, 30–40 hours weekly. Availability to be scheduled between 5AM–7:30PM, including weekends and holidays.
Pay
Starting at $16.50 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Front End:
- Ensure all customers have an impeccable CHEF’STORE experience by developing and maximizing relationships.
- Perform sales and cash functions in the POS efficiently and accurately, including scanning, weighing, and looking up unscannable items.
- Ensure accurate barcode reflection in the system and report discrepancies.
- Perform cart-to-cart transfer of products at checkout, inspecting for tampering.
- Verify cart content vs. purchases as customers leave the store.
- Perform store opening and/or closing functions at the front end.
- Sales Floor and Stocking:
- Increase sales and manage shrinkage while assisting customers in finding products.
- Receive inventory shipments, stock shelves neatly, and ensure proper rotation and product quality audits.
- Report low stock levels to store management.
- Label merchandise, including blaster tagging, catch weight labels, and PLU tags.
- Replenish sales floor daily by down-stocking freight and following FIFO (First In, First Out).
- Use reach trucks and pallet jacks for product movement.
- Utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, and proprietary software as needed.
- Assist with price changes as directed by store management.
- Participate in inventory and cycle count processes.
- Customer Courtesy:
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-maintained facility, including sales floor, front end, restrooms, parking lot, and entry area.
- Notify store management of safety issues and correct them if possible.
- Gather carts from the parking lot and ensure they are clean and operable.
- Perform other duties as assigned by store management.
Requirements
- Minimum 6–12 months of retail cashier and/or stocking experience.
- One year of retail selling and/or customer service experience preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent work experience.
- Basic computer skills, cash handling experience, and proficiency with general office equipment.
- Ability to work a flexible hourly schedule, including holidays and weekends.
- Desire and ability to deliver exceptional customer service and adaptability to assist other employees.
- Good common sense, logical thinking, and basic mathematical aptitude.
- Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently or within a team.
Physical Qualifications
Must be able to perform the following physical activities for the described length of time:
- Continuously (67%–100%): Stand, walk, lift 1–20 lbs, carry 1–20 lbs, grasp objects, manipulate objects, manual dexterity.
- Frequently (34%–66%): Lift 21–100 lbs, carry 21–100 lbs, push/pull (hand truck, gate, straps, etc.), climb/balance (stairs, ramps, trailer), stoop/squat, bend, reach above shoulder, twist.
- Occasionally (1%–33%): Lift/carry over 100 lbs, kneel, sit.
- Never: Drive vehicle.
Work is performed in a retail store setting with exposure to outside weather conditions, moderate noise, and temperature variations (-10 to 85 degrees).
