About the role
To safeguard the financial health of the bank by identifying, analysing, and mitigating potential credit risks associated with lending activities.
Responsibilities
- Execute Retail Loan Review operating procedures and independently evaluate the effectiveness of credit policy, underwriting decisions, and processes.
- Monitor, evaluate, and request remediation of lending practices for first- and second-line risk teams.
- Test adherence to delegated lending authority for US Consumer Bank.
- Assist with creation of appropriate documentation and report/track remediation status of findings and issues.
- Test lending decisions for quality of approval/decline outcomes and line assignment, and for adherence to Credit Policy requirements and criteria.
- Identify opportunities through analytics that can be used in performance analysis and potential improvements to credit risk strategy and judgmental lending processes.
- Support the team with responses to regulatory requests.
- Prepare documentation and report findings to appropriate forums and committees.
- Keep record and periodically follow-up on progress of findings raised by Loan Review in accordance with the Barclays Issue Management Standard.
- Complete ad hoc projects and tasks assigned by Enterprise Risk Management.
- Assess compliance with laws and regulations, internal credit policies, operating procedures, and business rules.
- Analysis of financial data, including income, assets, liabilities, credit history, and economic trends, to determine the risk of default.
- Monitoring of existing loan portfolios to identify potential credit deterioration or early warning signs of default.
- Recommendation of loan approvals, rejections, or adjustments based on risk evaluation and bank lending policies.
- Development and implementation of credit risk mitigation strategies, including collateral management, loan restructuring, and workout plans.

- Identify ways to mitigate risk and develop new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
- Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
- Perform work closely related to other areas, requiring understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the organisation's objectives.
- Collaborate with other areas of work for business-aligned support to keep up to speed with business activity and strategy.
