About the role
KC Pet Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to animal welfare. We operate Kansas City's municipal shelter, a satellite location, and partner with pet retail stores. Our mission is to create a caring, safe, and humane community for people and pets.
Responsibilities
- Cafe & Retail Scheduling: Coordinate and create shift schedules for the Retail and Barista team.
- Cafe & Retail Shift Coverage: Provide direct shift coverage on the floor, including additional coverage during team time-off, unplanned absences, or high-volume periods.
- Ordering & Inventory Control: Monitor inventory levels, track stock, and place replenishment orders within established budgets.
- Cafe & Retail Floor Ownership: Oversee the daily flow of the retail space and the coffee shop, ensuring accuracy in point-of-sale transactions and cash handling.
- Volunteer Mentorship: Guide and support volunteers by delegating tasks and providing guidance.
- Adoption Support & Education: Assist new pet owners with product recommendations that support long-term pet success.
- Lobby Collaboration: Partner with the Canine Adoptions team to assist with the Welcome Desk.
- Mercandising: Keep retail and cafe displays stocked, clean, and organized.
- Safety & Health Stewardship: Maintain a clean, safe environment that complies with food safety standards.
- Dynamic Support: Actively step in to support guests as a Barista and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma and at least 6 months prior customer service experience.
- Previous experience with scheduling, retail inventory, or food/beverage environments is preferred.
- Willingness and ability to obtain a Kansas City, Missouri Food Handlers card within the first 60 days of employment.
- Must be able to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and sustain periods of standing, bending, stooping, reaching, and animal handling and restraint.
