About the role

The Retail Assistant Store Manager at Office Depot plays a pivotal role in driving total sales and service growth within stores. The Assistant Manager will help lead a customer-centric environment, engage with the local community, and foster a positive culture aligned with the Office Depot 5C values of Caring, Committed, Creative, Collaborative, & Courageous. This is a "Key Carrier" position and considered a leader on duty. Full-Time Assistant Managers must be able to perform External Key Carrier responsibilities including opening and closing duties.

Primary responsibilities

  • Sales and Service Excellence: Partner with the management team to drive memorable customer experiences and client satisfaction. Ensure the execution of Office Depot selling techniques and sales training across the store. Foster a sales-focused environment through assisting with the training and development of associates. Act as a role model for delivering exceptional customer service and product expertise.
  • Operational Efficiency: Process merchandise accurately and efficiently, adhering to established procedures, deadlines, and visual merchandising standards. Identify areas for process improvement and implement plans to reduce waste and inefficiencies. Assist the General Manager in providing guidance and effective coaching to associates for improved performance. Contribute to increasing sales and profitability through conversion, Average Order Value (AOV), and customer satisfaction improvement initiatives.
  • Leadership and Team Development: Provide guidance, direction, and ongoing training to store associates, including Print Services associates. Facilitate training sessions on the business model and the holistic service offering for clients/customers. Observe, coach, and provide feedback to enhance associate proficiency and build a culture of trust and brand loyalty. Regularly exercise independent judgment when providing input to the General Manager on assessing store associates' performance, certification(s), and competencies.
  • External Key Carrier Responsibilities: Maintain the safety and security of the building and associates during the absence of other managers. Perform opening and closing responsibilities, including activation and deactivation of the store's alarm system, cash handling, and daily store balancing. Ensure regular loss prevention compliance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's preferred in Business, Marketing, Retail, or related field
  • 1–3 years related experience; retail, sales, customer-facing, and/or supervisory experience preferred
  • Basic computer skills; able to use job-related technology and systems
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays
  • Essential functions may require consent to periodic comprehensive background checks conducted by a third-party

Pay

$16.90/hour to $25.77/hour (all state and local minimum wages will be complied with, resulting in a possible adjustment to the salary range displayed).
