Retail Assistant Operations Manager

About the Role

The Assistant Retail Operations Manager oversees multiple Gift Shop and Gift Kiosk/Carts locations, working with zoos, aquariums, museums, and cultural attractions to enhance dining, retail, and admissions experiences. This role is part of SSA Group, a company with 50 years of experience, focused on sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation.

Responsibilities

• Show dynamic leadership and motivate staff to exceed customer and client expectations.
• Manage team operations: hire, integrate, supervise, evaluate, develop, coach, and manage employee exits.
• Develop training programs to train, motivate, and mentor employees.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
• Uphold company policies and procedures, including SSA EXTRA Guest Service standards.
• Support inventory control programs and ensure merchandise presentation standards are met.
• Complete daily, weekly, and monthly sales reporting through an internal Ledger.
• Manage cash handling procedures and troubleshoot POS functionality.
• Oversee cleanliness of shops and displays.
• Forecast sales, analyze controllable costs, and manage payroll within budget.
• Identify opportunities to generate sales and achieve goals.
• Promote sustainability, conservation, and community engagement efforts.
• Support inclusive and supportive practices within the team and unit.

Requirements

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proven leadership skills with a focus on team building and development.
• Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Financial management, merchandising, analytical, and planning skills.
• Ability to remain flexible in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic computer skills for office functions.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift boxes up to 35lbs, and perform operational tasks.
• Availability to work varied hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Two to three years of Retail Management experience preferred.
• Visual merchandising experience required.
• All education backgrounds eligible; must be 18 or older.
