Retail Assistant Operations Manager

About the role

As the Assistant Retail Operations Manager, you will oversee multiple Gift Shop and Gift Kiosk/Cart locations, ensuring dynamic leadership and operational excellence. This role supports store leadership in inventory control, sales maximization, and team development while upholding company standards and guest service expectations.

Responsibilities

• Show dynamic leadership and motivate staff to exceed customer expectations.
• Hire, recruit, supervise, evaluate, and develop team members; manage employee exits.
• Develop and implement training programs to mentor and motivate employees.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
• Demonstrate and uphold company policies and procedures.
• Perform SSA EXTRA Guest Service steps to ensure a memorable guest experience.
• Support inventory control programs and ensure merchandise presentation standards are met.
• Complete daily, weekly, and monthly sales reporting through an internal Ledger.
• Maximize sales by ensuring the right product mix and communicating inventory opportunities.
• Enforce cash handling procedures and troubleshoot POS functionality.
• Oversee cleanliness of all shops and displays.
• Conduct daily One-Minute Meetings with the team.
• Forecast sales, complete sales analysis, and manage controllable costs.
• Support payroll and profit management within the established budget.
• Analyze sales and inventory to identify opportunities for growth.
• Set and achieve sales, promotional, per capita, and budget goals.
• Promote an inclusive and supportive work environment.
• Support sustainability and conservation efforts, teaching staff as needed.
• Drive community engagement through hiring, activities, and giving-back initiatives.
• Perform other tasks as necessary.

Requirements

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with clients, management, buyers, and HQ personnel.
• Proven leadership skills with a focus on team building and development.
• Exceptional problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational abilities.
• Financial management, merchandising, analytical, and planning skills.
• Ability to remain flexible in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic computer skills for office functions.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move boxes (up to 35 lbs).
• Willingness to work varied hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Two to three years of retail management experience preferred.
• Visual merchandising experience required.
• All education backgrounds eligible; must be 18 or older.
