About the role
The Asset Protection Specialist role plays a critical role in ensuring a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for Wayfair associates, customers, and visitors. Key responsibilities include monitoring security systems, responding to incidents, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Welcome & Protect: Greet visitors, employees, and vendors with professionalism while maintaining a secure and friendly store atmosphere.
- Maintain Security: Oversee security systems (CCTV, access control, alarms), respond swiftly to incidents, and take action to minimize risk.
- Demonstrate Reliability: Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality. Communicate proactively to ensure uninterrupted coverage.
- Stay Vigilant: Identify risks early and take initiative to prevent incidents. Keep detailed records of observations, events, and interventions.
- Implement Safety Protocols: Apply knowledge of emergency response procedures, access control systems, and safety regulations to protect people and property.
- Support Incident Management: Assist with investigations, support safety audits, and respond calmly during emergencies or disruptions.
- Communicate with Discretion: Handle sensitive situations with professionalism, confidentiality, and empathy while maintaining trust and neutrality.
- Maintain Operational Integrity: Help monitor inventory movement, support shrink reduction efforts, and report compliance concerns when needed.
- Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with store leaders and the Asset Protection Manager to support training, safety initiatives, and process improvement.
- Adapt Under Pressure: Stay calm and composed during rapidly changing or high-stakes situations, always prioritizing safety and support.
- Operate as “One Team”: Support Wayfair’s total store goals by cross training across key store functions, including sales and back-of-house operations. You will flex where needed to support customers, teammates, store needs, and peak business periods.
Requirements
- 1+ year in asset protection, security, or a similar role.
- Experience with access control systems or CCTV is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on store needs.
- 1+ year of experience in a retail or customer service environment is preferred.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
- Comfortable using Google Workspace (Sheets, Gmail, Docs) and able to quickly learn new security and operational systems.
- Strong professionalism, organization, and sound discretion in sensitive or confidential situations.
- Clear and confident verbal and written skills to document incidents and engage with others professionally.
- Proven ability to prioritize, multitask, and stay focused in a fast-paced environment with evolving demands.
Qualifications
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs independently on a regular basis. Some projects may involve heavier items, which must be managed with proper assistance or equipment.
- Vision Requirements: Includes close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Temperature Flexibility: Comfortable in environments with varying temperature conditions.
- Noise Tolerance: Occasional exposure to moderate noise levels and physical activity.
- Safety Awareness: Minimal exposure to workplace or environmental hazards—must adhere to all safety protocols.

Pay
The hourly rate is a fixed entry rate for this position and applies to all new hires. While our system may display a pay range, this role’s starting rate is non-negotiable. Future pay increases are determined by performance, growth, and time in role, in accordance with our compensation policy.
Schedule
Will need to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on store needs.
