Restorative CNA PRN

About the Role

Provides restorative nursing programs within the scope of CNA practice. Delivers therapy delegated programs that are taught and supervised by therapy and extend beyond the scope and practice of a CNA. This is a nursing function that reports directly to the restorative nurse or a designated nursing department position. The role works closely with therapy and collaborates with CNAs and nurses to ensure residents receive their planned programs.

Qualifications

• Licensed Certified Nursing Assistant
• Minimum of two years of clinical, bedside CNA experience with evidence of positive evaluations
• Knowledge and skills in basic restorative nursing principles and practices
• Evidence of ability to work as a member of the team
• Reliable, demonstrates good judgment, and takes initiative
• Able to follow verbal and written instructions, and write in English
• Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and have manual dexterity
• Understands and embraces the facility restorative philosophy
• Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills
• Demonstrates accountability and responsibility

Responsibilities

• Provides restorative programs including:
  • Range of Motion (ROM) and ambulation
  • Bed mobility, positioning, and transfer techniques
  • Application of splints, braces, cones, prosthetic devices, and care of limbs where applied
  • Assistive feeding devices and restorative dining techniques (cueing and swallowing)
  • Activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, personal hygiene)
  • Incontinent management
  • Transfer and communication techniques
• Participates in the restorative dining program and directs regular CNAs regarding resident restorative dining programs
• Serves as a resource and role model for CNAs
• Documents program completion daily and narrative progress notes as required by facility policy
• Attends restorative meetings and care plan conferences
• Reports unusual problems regarding resident care to nursing staff immediately (e.g., pain, refusals, falls)
• Reports malfunctioning or improperly fitting equipment and equipment needs to therapy and the restorative nurse
• Places preventative/pressure relief mattresses and wheelchair cushions as directed by the restorative nurse
• Offers suggestions and provides input into the development of the interdisciplinary plan of care
• Assists with general orientation and ongoing restorative nursing in-services
• Participates in the facility Quality Improvement Program as directed by the restorative nurse and reports areas needing improvement
• Keeps skills current and enhances present skills by attending in-services and seminars
• Participates in the transfer of residents from Level II to Level III
• Assists with Phase II classes as directed
• Performs therapy delegated tasks under the direction and supervision of therapy
• Ensures resident safety
