This position is a Pay Band C2 with the New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute, which provides care to New Mexicans across six divisions, including inpatient psychiatric care, residential treatment, outpatient services, detox, and skilled/long-term care. As the largest behavioral health complex in the state, NMBHI serves over 250 inpatients/residents daily and 400 outpatient clients monthly.

About the role

To provide direct patient care as a Restorative Therapy Aide in the Long Term Care Division. Primary duties include assisting residents with feeding, ambulation, grooming, dressing, and passive/active range of motion to improve their quality of life and maintain optimal functioning.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients practicing exercises or functional activities under the clinical direction of a physical therapist or Restorative Nurse.
  • Organize, maintain, and disinfect therapy equipment after treatment.
  • Prepare treatment areas, including setting up therapy equipment.
  • Transport patients to and from the therapy clinic.
  • Comply with all treatments for assigned residents and notify the supervisor of any observed changes.
  • Maintain direct communication with OPRS and all disciplines to improve resident satisfaction.
  • Inventory adaptive equipment and order equipment as needed and directed by the Director of Nursing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid NM Driver’s License and ability to obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate.
  • Successful completion of a nationwide criminal background check (employment is conditional pending results).
  • Completion of Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) training.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position; pre-employment and random drug/alcohol testing are required.

Ideal Candidate

  • Experience working in skilled/long-term care facilities.
  • Experience working on multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with CMS and Joint Commission surveys.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and identify needs independently and in coordination with the therapy team.

Working Conditions

  • Office-like setting with time spent interacting with residents and providing therapy support activities.
  • May be exposed to residents with dementia or other psychiatric diagnoses that may lead to unpredictable behavior.

Pay

$17.00 - $25.49 hourly ($35,350 - $53,024 annually).

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, and all terms/conditions of that agreement apply.
