About the Role
The Restaurant Cashier is responsible for managing transactions and ensuring customer satisfaction throughout their dining experience.
Responsibilities
- Be assigned to a register at the beginning of the shift and manage a cash drawer containing a “bank” of money.
- Greet, welcome, and assist customers, including seating them and providing menus.
- Monitor the dining area to follow up with customers, ensuring their needs are met and questions answered.
- Count the cash drawer to verify the correct amount of money and adequate change; ensure the drawer is secured at all times.
- Manually enter prices into a cash register or use a scanner to transmit item codes to a computer.
- Separate and total charge forms, return slips, coupons, and other non-cash items.
- Issue receipts and provide the correct change to customers.
- Count the drawer’s contents at the end of the shift and reconcile totals with sales data.
- Accurately take phone orders when directed by a manager and promptly relay them to kitchen staff.
Requirements
- Ability to operate a cash register and/or adding machine.
- Excellent telephone skills and accurate understanding of customer orders.
- Knowledge of proper cashier protocol, including maintaining a pleasant and polite demeanor.
- Strong organizational skills to manage diverse duties and work effectively in a noisy, chaotic environment.
- Ability to work under pressure and thrive as part of a team.
- Understanding of and compliance with health and safety guidelines from Saint Peter’s and the New Brunswick Health Department.
- High energy, enthusiasm, and a positive sales approach with attention to detail.
- Ability to learn and use a Point of Sale (POS) system.
- Willingness to work one weekend day per week (5-day workweek), one full weekend per month, and three weeknights until closing (time to be determined).
- Able to work holidays.
Pay
Salary Range: $17.00 - $22.95 USD per hour. Compensation is determined by factors such as job-related experience, internal equity, and industry-specific market data. Some positions may also be eligible for clinical certification pay and shift differentials. The listed range reflects full-time compensation and will be prorated based on employment status.
