About the role
The Host/Hostess position is responsible for greeting and seating guests during breakfast service. This role ensures tables are rotated equitably among servers, maintains a professional and friendly demeanor, and assists guests with expectations, coffee, or beverages as needed.
Potential career paths include advancement to F&B Supervisor, F&B Manager, Director of Food and Beverage, Director of Operations, General Manager, or VP of Food & Beverage.
Responsibilities
- Check restaurant for proper set-up upon arrival.
- Verify micro machines are set to the correct menu.
- Fill out the floor plan using the station rotation chart.
- Assign sidework schedule on the floor plan and post it at the host stand.
- Complete the menu class form, gather specials, and obtain daily information from the expeditor or food production manager.
- Conduct menu class for staff.
- Seat guests following station rotation and issue menus.
- Remove extra silverware if there is an unoccupied seat and no DRA (Dining Room Attendant).
- Record the number of guests on the guest flow chart per station and mark the next rotation.
- Know micro procedures if applicable.
- Check opening sidework before sending servers on break.
- Set micro machines to the next shift’s menu and turn machines off at shift end.
- Be familiar with hotel facilities, their locations, hours of operation, and how to direct guests for information.
- Know directions to the hotel.
- Carry out all reasonable requests from management within your capability.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous service experience preferred.
- Ability to follow directions and work well with others.
- Must be TIPS, CARE (or equivalent) certified, or obtain certification by the first day on the job.
