About the role

The Chair oversees the Respiratory Therapy and Polysomnography program, providing leadership, administrative support, teaching, and advising.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and administers academic and clinical policies and procedures within the program.
  • Develops, updates, and evaluates program and course curriculum and resources.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the professional discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development.
  • Hires, develops, trains, and motivates faculty to ensure optimal performance.
  • Communicates variances to appropriate management.
  • Coordinates and supervises faculty, adjunct faculty, and guest speakers.
  • Serves as liaison between students and clinical staff.
  • Provides individual advisement and guidance for intellectual and professional development of students.
  • Teaches, supervises, and evaluates students' academic, skill laboratory, clinical, and field performance.
  • Meets Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as assigned by the Provost.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credential and current Iowa license.
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/preceptor for student of such programs.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and relationship building skills.
  • Course work in instructional methodologies, evaluation, and assessment preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development preferred.

Qualifications

  • Ability to complete the CoARC Key Personnel Training Program (as applicable).

Skills

  • Effective leadership and guidance in all areas of the program.
  • Supervision of the Coordinator of Clinical Education (DCE) and all faculty in the program.
  • Participation in recruiting and program admissions processes.
  • Ensuring program effectiveness through ongoing program planning, assessment, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Development of the annual budget and monitoring expenditures.
  • Coordination and supervision of faculty, adjunct faculty, and guest speakers.
  • Development and administration of academic and clinical policies and procedures.
  • Development, updating, and evaluation of program and course curriculum and resources.
  • Continuing professional development.
  • Hiring, developing, training, and motivating faculty to ensure optimal performance.
  • Providing regular feedback, including the annual performance evaluation.
  • Educating faculty, adjunct faculty, and clinical sites regarding curriculum requirements for student learning.
  • Developing criteria and procedures for clinical site selection, utilization, and assessment as per program and University requirements.
  • Teaching, supervising, and evaluating students' academic, skill laboratory, clinical, and field performance.
  • Serving as liaison between students and clinical staff.
  • Providing individual advisement and guidance for intellectual and professional development of students.
  • Meeting KPIs as assigned by Provost.
