Respiratory Therapy Assistant-PRN
About the role
This job assists the hospital in the respiratory care of patients and performs special technical support services according to level of knowledge/training under the direct supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT).
Responsibilities
- Assists the Respiratory Therapists in patient care with direct supervision of the CRT/RRT.
- Performs clinical job duties as outlined by departmental Orientation, Assessment, & Evaluation (OAE), training, and competency.
- Supports respiratory/hospital admin by acceptance of established objectives, policies and procedures.
- Accurately documents patient related tasks.
- Maintains professional knowledge and required certifications through growth and development.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Education: Required - High School diploma or equivalent
- Preferred - Enrollment in an accredited Respiratory Therapy School Program
- Work Experience: Required - None
- Preferred - Hospital experience
- Certifications: Required - Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
Qualifications
- Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information. Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Self-directed including the ability to work independently and with supervision.
- Effective planning, organizing and time management skills.
- Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities.
- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).
