About the role

The Respiratory Therapy Assistant provides support for respiratory care services for the treatment of patients with disordered respiratory physiology under the direction of a registered respiratory therapist. The position involves delivering various oxygen devices on a timely basis, performing hospital-wide rounds, supporting respiratory therapists, nurses, and physicians with equipment/supply needs, and serving in the department communications center.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers varied oxygen devices on a timely basis.
  • Makes hospital-wide rounds to monitor and provide service to patients using respiratory support devices.
  • Serves as a resource for respiratory therapy supplies and work lists.
  • Supports the department communications center by providing information management and data entry for department billing, QA database, and research studies.
  • Members of the hospital Code Bue team, performing CPR as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum educational requirement is a high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) AND at least 3-years of experience in a direct patient care role OR active enrollment in, or graduation from, an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Must be able to learn and perform CPR.
  • Must have good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with a variety of individuals.
  • Strong independent problem-solving skills to respond to unpredictable situations.
  • Maturity, initiative, commitment to patient and customer service, and good judgment are required.
  • Ability to work harmoniously in a team environment.
  • Follow proper precautions to avoid potential exposure to infectious agents, hazardous substances, noise, and heat.
  • Good manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to work with equipment.
  • CPR will be taught if not already BLS trained.
  • Must be able to differentiate medical life support gases.
  • Previous knowledge of medical terminology/abbreviations helpful.

Pay and Benefits

$22.73 - $32.26 / hour
Benefits Eligible: Yes
Schedule: Full Time
Hours/Pay Period: 80
Schedule Details: Monday - Friday 6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and/or 2:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Weekend Schedule: Every other Weekend
International Assignment: No
Site Description: Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.
